The Background

MPC is one of three congregations that make up the Faith Trio, an interfaith collaboration with the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) and Kehilla Synagogue.

These three congregations have collaborated on a variety of activities over the past eleven years, including a very successful interfaith art exhibit held in September and October of 2011. We are now looking forward to the second interfaith art exhibit, this time on the theme “Finding Common Ground through Sacred Words” which is taking place now through June 7.

Hundreds of beautiful and inspiring works of art have been submitted by a wide variety of artists to this exhibit, including calligraphy, needlework, paintings on silk, oil paintings, watercolor, photography, weavings, quilts, stained glass, sculpture, digital art, and paper collage. The theme of this exhibit is artwork that incorporates words, text or letters and that expresses a commitment to interfaith understanding, coexistence, peace and cultural exchange.

One of the main goals of this exhibit was to bring people together from different faiths and cultures, and the exhibit has certainly succeeded in doing that! Artwork has been submitted to the exhibit that incorporates writing in English, Hebrew, Arabic, Runes, Korean, Chinese, and more.

A committee representing the Faith Trio congregations (Kehila, ICCNC, and the Montclair Presbyterian Church) worked hard at designing the exhibit, working out all the logistics, and planning several events in connections with this exhibit. MPC is represented on this committee by Kathy Horn, Steve McKiernan, Gregg Schwinn and Jane Vanderveer.

A poster for the event is available for download at this link. Please download it and pass it along to anyone who might be interested. You can also check out the Interfaith Art Exhibit Facebook page.
